Sash windows in Bushey.
Victorian houses and the period homes of the Bushey village conservation area. I repair, restore and draught-proof timber sash windows throughout Bushey, with 25+ years’ hands-on experience and the same honest, repair-first approach on every job.

The houses in Bushey
Bushey Village has a conservation area around the High Street and St James’s church with Georgian and Victorian houses, many of them associated with the artists’ community that grew up around Herkomer’s school in the late 19th century. Bushey Heath and the streets towards Watford and Oxhey are largely Victorian, Edwardian and interwar, with timber sashes on a good share of the older houses.
What usually goes wrong
Older village sashes have slim bars and old glass needing careful joinery, and the usual rot at sills and bottom rails. Victorian and Edwardian houses have perished cords, worn pulleys and painted-shut sashes, with bays taking the worst of the weather. Draughts and rattles are the common complaint, and draught-proofing cures both.
Planning and conservation
Bushey Village is a conservation area with a number of listed buildings. Repairs and draught-proofing of existing windows need no consent. If you are in the conservation area or own a listed house and are considering replacement sashes, check with Hertsmere Borough Council first.
