Sash windows in Watford.
Victorian terraces and the period houses around Cassiobury and Nascot. I repair, restore and draught-proof timber sash windows throughout Watford, with 25+ years’ hands-on experience and the same honest, repair-first approach on every job.

The houses in Watford
Watford’s period housing sits mainly north and west of the town centre. Nascot has Victorian villas and terraces from the 1860s onwards, Cassiobury is mostly Edwardian and interwar, and the streets around Watford Junction, Oxhey and West Watford are late Victorian and Edwardian terraces. Timber sashes were standard across all of them and many survive.
What usually goes wrong
Victorian villas in Nascot have tall, heavy sashes with the usual cord and pulley wear and rot at the sills. Edwardian and interwar houses in Cassiobury often have multi-pane top sashes that have been painted shut, and lighter lower sashes that rattle. On the terraces, draughts and rot in bottom rails are the common jobs.
Planning and conservation
Nascot and Cassiobury are conservation areas, and a number of houses in both are covered by Article 4 directions that limit what can be changed without permission. Repairs and draught-proofing of existing windows need no consent. If you are thinking about replacement sashes in either area, check with Watford Borough Council first.
